Why Chelsea and Arsenal risk missing out on top four

After facing defeats to Crystal Palace and Watford respectively, the two London clubs face a hard test as they play catch up with the two Manchester clubs who lead the race in the Premier League title.

Both managers Lost their 8th fixtures of the season
Chelsea and Arsenal now sit in 5th and 6th respectively and both 9 points a drift leaders Manchester City who sit on 22 points after 8 games with Manchester United trailing the leaders on 20 points.
Although its too early in the season, it is clear to see that Chelsea and Arsenal are not serious title contenders this season with the type of teams they are dropping points against.
Before Crystal Palace won at home against Champions Chelsea, they had failed to score a single goal in the entire 7 games this season, but managed to open their campaign against Antonio Conte's side who had their own injury problems to ponder.
Loosing a game of that stature just shows how Chelsea are not putting in a lot o work to get results as they have now lost three games which nearly equals their whole total of for the whole of last season.
For Arsenal, after a heavy defeat against Liverpool, they came back to show that they were not ready to be written of just yet winning all and drawing once, up to the Watford game where they suffered a 2-1 defeat.

These kind of easy losses to mid-table are what will define the season for the Top Six clubs who have to fight it out for the four Champions League slots.
With both Manchester clubs looking like the real deal when it comes to top four contention, the remaining four must fight it out to ensure that they do not miss out. If Liverpool and 'The Harry Kane team' Spurs, are able to fight to stay in the top four with their impressive current forms, they will make it hard for the two London clubs to brake into the top four.
And without forgetting the mid-table teams who have been quite impressive this season, who knows maybe they can stake a claim for the Champions League, surely after Leicester's fairy-tale season who cant rule out anything.
